Brendan Rodgers has claimed Luis Suarez is 'chomping at the bit' ahead of his return to the Liverpool side - five months after he was banned for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.
The Uruguayan is likely to line up alongside the in-form Daniel Sturridge for the Capital One Cup clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford having not played for the Anfield side since copping a 10-match ban in April.
Suarez trained at Melwood on Monday as Liverpool look to bounce back from their defeat to Sunderland on Saturday.
'It has been a really difficult time for him not playing games,' he said.
'How he has prepared himself over the last number of weeks has been fantastic.
'He's really chomping at the bit to help the team.
'Everyone knows the depth of his quality and his attitude.
'Once he gets back on the field again he will show what he has shown since he's been here.'
Asked whether Suarez had learned his lesson, Rodgers added: 'We will see, we will see.'
Liverpool defender Kolo Toure, meanwhile, has no doubts striker Suarez has the right mentality to hit the ground running.
Suarez also failed in his attempts to manufacture a move away in the summer but Toure expects to see a fully fired-up striker on his return.
'Wednesday is going to be massive for us. He (Suarez) is a winner and he wants to win, working hard, fighting,' said the defender.
'He is really difficult to attack in training. You saw in the first international he played in he scored twice and that shows how strong this guy is.
'Suarez is a fantastic player and a top striker who can score a goal from any side.
'But Daniel Sturridge has been playing very well this season so we will have two very strong strikers.'
Having played for Manchester City, Arsenal and now Liverpool, Toure would probably run Suarez a close second as the most unpopular player in United fans' eyes.
But he is far too experienced to be daunted by such a prospect and is concerned more with Liverpool correcting the errors which led to their first defeat in 13 league games.
'When I was young I dreamed of those games (at Old Trafford). I will try to do everything to try to win this game,' he added.
'We need to have the courage to pass the ball. For the four previous games we've been passing the ball and everyone was working hard but we failed as a team (against Southampton).
'The group haven't done the job. It is going to be a very important game for us.'
P.S. Will Sturridge and Suarez be better than the original 'SAS'?
Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton scored 49 goals between them for Blackburn Rovers in the 1994-95 season.
Shearer joined from Southampton for £3.3million in 1992 and Kenny Dalglish's side went on to finish fourth and then second in the Premier League.
The arrival of Sutton for £5m in 1994 saw Rovers improve again and win the title, thanks largely to their potent strike force.
